How to make money blogging for beginners – The hidden secret

Are you dreaming of turning your blogging passion into a profitable venture? Wondering how to make money from your blog? Well, you're not alone, I get questions about how to generate income from a blog all the time. Many aspiring bloggers face challenges when it comes to monetizing their blogs. In this post “How to make money blogging for beginners - The hidden secret” , I reveal multiple ways to generate income blogging specifically for beginners, as well as the hidden secret that can help speed up the process of launching a profitable blog.

Challenges beginners encounter

Beginner bloggers may encounter a few stumbling blocks on their path to monetization. One common hurdle is the need for substantial traffic to their blog site to make money through affiliate marketing or sponsorship. These avenues typically require a large audience which can be daunting for newcomers. There are lots of resources online on how to monetize blogs, however, very few address the real challenges faced by beginners who do not necessarily have enough visitors to their blog sites.

There are two major aspects we need to address when it comes to monetizing a blog:

  1. One: the different ways to generate income, or the different income generators for blogs
  2. Two: how to actually create revenue from a blog, in other words what do we need to have in place to enter into sales transactions.

Let’s look at both of them.

Ways to make money blogging as a beginner

Creating and selling digital products is one of the most lucrative options for beginner bloggers, and actually my favorite one. We get to keep all the proceeds from the sales, making it a profitable endeavor. And when it comes to digital products, there are many options to choose from, such as:

  • Downloadables like e-books, templates, or printables, which can turn our visitors into paying customers.
  • Online Courses: Developing online courses is another excellent way to monetize our blog, probably the one I like the most. These courses can provide valuable knowledge to our audience and offer a good profit margin. Plus, they can be evergreen, meaning they continue to generate income over time.
  • Memberships: Offering memberships on our blog can provide a steady stream of recurring revenue. While it may require more commitment from the bloggers and from their audience, the payoff can be substantial in the long run. Depending on the type of membership, they can also be very simple to get started.
  • Coaching services: Leading blog readers into one-on-one coaching sessions, group coaching programs, or even workshops can be a great way to provide guidance while generating income for a blog.
  • Event hosting or speaking engagements: this is another popular way to create income for those who are comfortable with public speaking. We can host events, workshops, or webinars related to our blog's topic. Additionally, we can seek opportunities to speak at conferences, seminars, or industry events, where we can share our expertise and potentially earn speaking fees or sponsorships.

There are other popular ways to generate income from blogs, however, as a beginner blogger with limited visitors, choosing one of the options previously mentioned helps keep things simple at the beginning.

How to create revenue from a blog

There are two components that are crucial to have in place in order to enter into transactions with blog readers.

  1. An email list.
  2. A blog site that is capable of selling products and enrolling readers in courses and/or memberships.

The email list

Building an email list is a critical aspect of monetizing a blog, and neglecting this strategy can also impact a beginner blogger's ability to make money. An email list provides a direct line of communication with our audience. Without building an email list, we miss out on the opportunity to nurture relationships with our readers and potential customers on a more personal level.

Email marketing is one of the most effective channels for driving sales and conversions. By neglecting to build an email list, we simply miss out on the chance to promote our products or services directly to our audience.

Building an email list allows bloggers to bring visitors back to their blog repeatedly by sending them regular updates, newsletters, or exclusive content. Without an email list, we rely solely on organic traffic, which as a beginner, may not be consistent or reliable for sustaining engagement over time.

I can’t stress this enough, building an email list is a crucial component of monetizing a blog. It is actually a crucial component of any online businesses, and it is certainly true for beginner bloggers. Building and nurturing an email list from the early stages of our blogging journey should be a priority for beginner bloggers.

A blog site that is capable of selling products and enrolling readers in courses and/or memberships.

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is they get started with a blog site that isn't ready for monetization. What I mean by that is a blog site that isn’t S.M.A.R.T. (scalable, marketable, adaptable, ROI-able, and time-savable).

However, this is essential for success as we want to be able to offer and sell our digital products right from within our blog site. In addition, if we're offering online courses and memberships, we want to be able to enroll our readers/customers on our actual blog site at the time they are making their purchase.

Without a blog site that has those capabilities, bloggers often find themselves struggling with technical challenges and wasting precious time patching together multiple platforms.
